His formal medical training includes a M.D. degree and a Ph.D. degree equivalent ("Habilitation") from RWTH Aachen University (Aachen, Germany). He is also active in a number of professional societies and related organizations, among them the Clinical Sciences & Research Committee of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM).
Dr. Schmitz has been awarded more than 2 million euros in peer reviewed grants as Principal Investigator.
