Biography
Professor Dayi Hu is a Director of the Intervention Center at Peking University People’s Hospital, Dean of Clinical Research Institute at Shanghai Fudan University, President of Chinese Association on Tobacco Control(CATC), President of the Chinese Society of Cardiovascular Prevention & Rehabilitation(CSCPR), President of the Chinese Society of Heart & Brain Diseases (CSHBD), President of China Heart Federation (CHF), Past President of the Chinese Society of Cardiology (CSC), the first President of the Chinese College of Cardiovascular Physicians (CCCP), and Board Member of World Heart Federation (WHF), Academician of The International Academy of Sciences for Europe and Asia (IASEA), International Council Member of American colleague of Cardiology(ACC), Member of ACC Heart Failure and Transplant Council, Board of Directors of the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy (ISCP).
Professor Dayi Hu was born in the Henan province of Central China, in 1946. He graduated from Beijing Medical School (now Peking University Health Science Center) in 1970 and furthered his education both at SUNY-Oswego and University of Illinois from 1985-1987. Professor Hu has been a pioneer of radio-frequency ablation technology in the treatment of tachyarrhythmia. Since 1980, he had actively shared his work with more than 160 hospitals in China along with a few in India, Vietnam, and Japan. He has specialized in preventative cardiology, electrophysiology, pacemaker implantation and interventional therapy of coronary artery disease. He also focuses on the treatment and prevention of hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and arrhythmias. He has been recognized with a number of awards, such as the "National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology" (twice), "Chinese physicians award" and "Beijing Advanced Science Workers", to name a few. Currently, he actively participates in the management and prevention of cardiovascular disease and comprehensive interdisciplinary research on a national level. He is the principal investigator (PI) of the China Heart Survey, the Steer Committee member and many international clinical trials such as ROCKET, BEAUTIFUL, GARFIELD, SHIFIT, SAVE, ACE, MAGELLAN, SIGNIFY, ALECARDIO, Dal-HEART,TIMI 54, etc.
Professor Hu is an Editorial Consultant of JACC Editorial Board, a member of the editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Cardiology, an international board member of Journal of Clinical Cardiology,Journal of the American College of Cardiology, European Heart Journal, and also of many other national and international medical journals.
Professor Hu has been the editor-in-chief or major translator of 39 professional books, three of which have been published in the United States. He has published 427 papers in journals at home and abroad. Between 1989 and 2011, 82 Master degree candidates, 34 doctoral candidates and 19 post-doctoral candidates from three different medical schools have graduated under the supervision of Professor Hu, many of them currently holding prestigious positions around the country. Professor Hu has presided over more than 20 international conferences and more than 30 small and medium-sized meetings and events. Professor Hu has made tremendous contributions in promoting Chinese Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology, Chinese preventive cardiology.
Since 1990, Professor Hu founded the Great Wall Congress of Cardiology (GW-ICC.org). Over the years the annual scientific sessions of GW-ICC have become the largest cardiology conference in China and Asia-Pacific. Professor Hu has been a huge proponent of Health Education in China.
